100% Olive oil without Hechsher

Hi,

I’m based in Asia, and keep a kosher kitchen. I’d been using imported Borges Extra Light Olive Oil (not extra virgin) for cooking. They recently removed the OU hechsher from their labels in my region.

I checked with Borges directly, and they told me that the removal of the OU sign was for marketing and demographic purposes. And they included an official letter from Borges declaring that all oils bottled and manufactured in the specific plant my batch of oils were from are certified kosher.

  1. Can I take their word for it?

  2. Does 100% Olive oil that is not extra virgin, but from a reputable brand like Borges or Bertolli require kosher certification in the first place?

Thank you for what you do.
