countertops meat and dairy

We are moving into a new apartment with limited counter space in the kitchen. Can you please clarify the following:

-Can we use the same counter for preparing meat and dairy meals?

-Would we have to cover the counter, say for preparing meat, or is it enough to thoroughly clean the surface between uses?

-Is it a problem if meat or dairy is placed directly on the counter, or if a hot pot or pot lid is placed on the counter?

-Does it matter if the counter is wet?

Thank you!

You can use one counter for both.

No need to cover. Just clean between uses.

Avoid putting hot food directly on the counter. The pot is fine.
