Before a garlic bulb is harvested, the plant sends up a stalk that eventually flowers. Before the stalk flowers, it is usually cut (so that the plant can direct more energy to the growing bulb) and the stem and unopened bud are eaten as a ‘garlic scape’. It has a much milder & sometimes sweet garlic flavor. I know a bulb of garlic is considered davar charif, but does this extend to all edible parts of the plant, like the scape? Thank you.
