Late for maariv barchu

if One misses barchu bc he’s late for maariv, is it important to say it afterwards like they do an EY? Or there’s no real obligation to have to say it. I came late and after maariv someone asked why I didn’t say. what is the reason for saying it in the first place if you missed it?

In the Rabbi’s shul the Chazzan says Barchu before Aleinu. So not relevant.

I asked around a little and if I got the right message, the Rabbi’s opinion is - it’s a nice thing to do but not required. Reason being - Why not get another Barchu in there. It’s a Davar Shebikdusha.
