What is the minimum length that tsitsit strings can be to be kosher?

When you make them initially, or if it gets ripped later? There are different rules.
When they get ripped later.
If they rip only partially and they are all 8” from the edge of the cloth, that’s ok.
Alternatively, if one string rips completely down to the knotted area, that would be ok. If two strings rip down to the knotted area, you need to restring it.
The initial ideal length is 12” from the edge of the cloth.
