I am in a dorm that requires one to use an RFID card to access the building, go through security, and to unlock the dorm room. The card is used three times to get inside my room and it is impossible to access my room without tapping the card. What is the Rabbi’s opinion? Can I tap the card on Shabbat or is it recommended I stay in the room the entire Shabbat which can be burdensome (no minyan, Shabbat meals…)?
We keep away from issues about electricity and electronics. It’s a heated debate and we are not looking to get in the middle of it.
