Is bamboo fencing kosher for sechach?

Is peeled and polished reed mats kosher?

The products that are sold as Sechach are far inferior in durability and quality and cost much more.

Look at the Comment section at the web address that the first post shows, the comment from Chaz where he says that metal is used to keep them together (that rusted out after 6 months)
