Berachah on a Super Pretzel

What’s the berachah on a Super Pretzel?

Hamotzie

אור יצחק חלק ב סימן סו

אם דרך בני אדם לקבוע סעודתן על לחם זה מברכים

המוציא, ואם לאו מברכים מזונות

That’s not talking about a baked pretzel.

The Rabbi was adamant that baked pretzels are Hamotzie.

Bread is always bread. It never falls into the category of pas haba b’kisnin, so the beracha is always Hamotzie.

Only when the product is significantly altered e.g., mixed with a lot of sugar, chocolate, etc., or made hard like matzah do we discuss whether people normally kovea seudah on it.

Even mini pitas baked as a snack remain Hamotzie.

A soft pretzel is regular bread and therefore Hamotzie.
