Bob's Red Mill Organic Corn Grits / Polenta

The only ingredient is corn. The package does not say Gluten Free because this particular item (organic) is not manufactured in their dedicated gluten free facility

Kosher for Pesach for Sephardim

If the grain wasn’t processed in a gluten free facility how do we know hametz wasn’t mixed in accidentally?

The fda requires anything more than 20 parts per million to be declared on the label. We only need 1 in 60.

The 20 ppm applies in the case that the manufacturer declares the item to be gluten free. That is not the case for this item. They intentionally omitted the GF designation because it’s not produced in a gluten free facility.

It’s a common point of confusion, but technically, that’s not quite how the rule works. The FDA does not require a blanket declaration for any gluten over 20 parts per million (ppm) on all food labels.

Instead, the 20 ppm threshold is the specific standard a manufacturer must meet if they choose to use a voluntary claim like “Gluten-Free,” “No Gluten,” or “Free of Gluten.”

Besides, doesn’t the batel be’60 apply only before Pesach? Rav Ovadia Yosef ruled that it;s allowable to intentionally be mevatel be’60 an item before Pesach but not during. So I would think that dry ingredients pose a problem because if there is some wheat flour in there, at this point in time it’s not chametz. Once we wet the item then the flour could become chametz.

Have a read. If there’s wheat it will be on the label.

There’s more to say on the topic but let’s save it for after the Pesach busy season.

Rye and Barley are not listed as “major food allergens” under this specific law.

Let’s go slow. Are we settled with wheat?

I assumed all of this kosher for pesach meant to purchase BEFORE pesach for bitul declaration.

Correct
