Can one carry in ones (or others) yard on Shabbath? Is their a difference if their is a gate that is open or closed?
A person can carry something that was in the yard before Shabbos, to another spot in the yard, as long as it is fenced in (or in eruv). As long as the gate is less than 10 amos (15-19+ feet).

Yes, as long as it is fenced in (or in eruv)
Keep in mind that if there are several residents in the same yard that would need an eruv chazteirut as well. (ie. apartment buildings…)
