Is it good to be machmir and only drink chalav yisrael milk or is it unnecessary?
There’s only two choices. Chalav Yisrael (which includes what you may have heard referred to as Chalav Stam) and Chalav Akum.
Chalav Stam is Chalav Yisrael. So no point in being machmir. (Not like R. Moshe’s בעל נפש יחמיר) Is that correct?
Correct.
As an aside of you ask R Reuven Feinstein this question he will give you the same answer.
Thank you very much
To clarify, Rav Reuven doesn’t disagree with Rav Moshe. He will explain that the level of a baal nefesh is a very high level.
For illustration, Rav Dovid Feinstein ate Chalav Stam until (from what I understand) he was in his 60’s. Only at that point did he consider himself a baal nefesh.
Rav Reuven doesn’t disagree with Rav Moshe. He says they always had in the house.
I don’t know how to explain the Baal Nefesh piece. There’s a thousand interpretations on that. For some reason this particular psak became super political but it shouldn’t be different than any other Psak Halacha in Hilchot Basar Bechalav. ![]()
