How much should one drink on Purim to fulfill the mitzvah of Ad Delo Yoda?
Can I drink whisky or must it be wine?
In a world of alcohol abuse and addictions galore, it is not necessary to drink at all. If you know that this is not your issue (without denial) then a glass or two of wine is in order.
Getting drunk is not what was meant by this. People used to be able to hold their alcohol. They had wine often. They knew how much to drink where they felt good, but didn’t put their health in danger.
If you’re not sure do less.
There are lots of opinions in the Achronim about this, but there is no question that today the concept is abused and any of those same Rabbanim would have said today to tame it down.
