Loans after death

My Mother lent 10K to a grandchild many years ago, and they promised to be good for repayment.
My mother mentioned the outstanding portion of this loan quite recently, indicating she still expected it to be paid. She died in 2017.
Does her death free the grandchild from the obligation to finish paying the remainder of this loan(3K or so)?

Death does not free someone from their obligation to repay a loan unless the borrower is also the inheritor.
