Matcha Question

Thank you for your research and website. I read online that the Starbucks Matcha powder has sugar in it. Since it is not plain powder and there is no hechsher on the powder, how can one get a matcha drink and assume the powder is kosher? I understand people used to rely on ingredient labels in the old days, but don’t we try to be more careful in this day and age to only buy things with certification? Who is the Rav Hamachshir behind Kosher Starbucks? Thank you again.

I dont understand. Plain powder doesnt need a hechsher but with sugar it does? People used to rely on ingredients but today not? What does that mean?

We rely on ingredients all day just as the halacha dictates.
