Mishneh Torah as Baseline Halakha

Is it correct to use Mishneh Torah (as opposed to Shulhan Arukh) as the basis for most of my outlook on halakha? In addition to MT, I would refer to more recent she’elot u-teshubot for issues regarding new technologies, political developments, social changes, etc. If not Mishneh Torah, which book would you recommend as a foundation?

I would think you’re better off following the Shulchan Aruch as the foundation to practical Halacha (much of which is derived from the Rambam).

I’ll take the opportunity to repeat what Rabbi Abadi told all of us many times. “One should always have a Rabbi to follow.”
