Kosher for Passover for all
Why is the vinegar not a problem? Heinz website says it comes from grain.
How can high fructose corn syrup not be kitnios???
It’s batel b’rov
Is corn syrup not nosen taam?
Sure it is. Still batel b’rov.
I asked Heinz if the vinegar is made from wheat or corn. They replied that they use vinegar from both sources and there’s no way to tell if an individual product has one or the other.
That’s not true. Not sure who you spoke to but that’s clearly a mistake. Ask again. Or read online.
I couldn’t find anything online so I asked Heinz directly. What is your source and why do you consider it more accurate than mine.
Full text of Heinz response:
“Hi, please be aware that if stated only as vinegar in the ingredient listing, it is distilled white vinegar. Distilled white vinegar is made by the fermentation of dilute, distilled ethyl alcohol. It is such a pure product that our suppliers are not limited to one grain as a source material. It may be made from the alcohol of any grain or mixture of grains. However, all vinegar is distilled and through the distilling process, protein is removed.”
Agreed w/ R’Yisrael. They don’t use wheat.
@Koshermike it would seem that they just sent you some generic answer without actually stating what they use.
Here’s a quote from them:
“Heinz Distilled White Vinegar has been the Natural Choice for food since 1869. With its clean, crisp flavor, it’s ideal for your favorite marinade, salads, recipes and more. Our Distilled White Vinegar is made only from corn and crystal-clear water. While all of our corn is grown in America, our tests show no traces of GMO in our finished product.”
So sometimes Heinz says they only use corn, and sometimes they say they are not limited to one grain. Should we not say Safek D’oraysa lechumra?
There’s no safek here.
Kosher for Pesach for Sephardim. (usually batel in the food you are making, so the product would be OK for all)
Still good for Passover 2025?
Thanks
