Relying on ingredients

When a product has no non-kosher ingredients in it but says on it “may contain a non kosher ingredient”, would that be good?
Thanks

We cant answer general rules without the specifics. What product has a notice that it may contain non-kosher ingredients? Whats the non kosher ingredient listed?

I had nothing specific in mind, just asking.
I’ll ask a different question. If heinz makes a run of baked beans with bacon in it why aren’t we worried that they make the regular kosher ingredient beans on the same machines as the bacon run?

Great question.

Here’s some homework.

  1. How are these machines cleaned between runs?
  2. Does the ingredients of the Kosher Heinz product list any of these nonkosher ingredients?
  3. Assuming the machines are cleaned well between runs what kashrut issues would we be dealing with?
  4. If there was some trief remaining in the machine would there be enough Kosher ingredients to make it Batel?

There are literally millions of questions that can be asked here. It’s a huge topic that covers many different halachot. The problem with debating this topic here is that most are not fluent in the Shulchan Aruch so its the equivalent of a brain surgeon trying to explain the surgery to the laymen. The laymen kinda get some of the ideas but really has no grasp at all. It is for this reason we also avoid explaining the reasoning behind many laws on this forum. People who don’t fully understand the depth of the Halachot may make their own assumptions and apply it incorrectly to a new scenario.
